England has two cups – the FA (Football Association) Cup and the EFL (English Football League) Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup. The difference between the two Cups is noted in Terms & Definitions.
Crystal Palace, the first team AFC Richmond plays under Ted Lasso, is the location of Richmond's home games in the show. The training pitch, though seemingly attached to the main stadium, is the home stadium of Hayes and Yeading United Football Club. This club competes in the Isthmanian League South Central Division (Level 8 in Table 1) and is 22 miles northwest of Crystal Palace's stadium. Both are in boroughs of London.
While Wales has a professional football league, there are 5 Welsh teams competing in the English Football League (Levels 2-4). Cardiff City is one of them and referenced in Ted Lasso (Season 1, Episode 9) by Colin Hughes, the Welsh midfielder playing for AFC Richmond. Cardiff City currently plays in League One (Tier 3).
AFC Wrexham has gained international recognition, or at least American recognition, due to the purchase of the club by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and the start of the documentary, "Welcome to Wrexham". The club also was referenced in Ted Lasso (Season 2, Episode 5) after the purchase by Reynolds and McElhenney. Wrexham currently plays in The Championship (Tier 2) after earning 3 promotions over 4 years, a phenomenal and unprecedented accomplishment.
A more restrictive Cup with only the top two divisions and the top 4 teams from the third division eligible for competition.
Copa Argentina is one of the younger domestic cups with the first two occurring in 1969-70, and the third one being a relaunch of the tournament for the 2011-12 season.
The MLS Cup is earned by the team that wins the championship game that caps off the playoffs.
Unlike most world football leagues, MLS follows a traditional American playoff system. The LA Galaxy have won the most MLS Cup titles, as the winner of the championship game in the playoff.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup dates back to 1913, long before MLS was formed. In modern history (since 1996), the Chicago Fire, Seattle Sounders, and Sporting Kansas City are tied with 4 titles each.
